The 2025 Mendocino Music Festival opens July 12 with the Grammy Award-winning Villalobos Brothers. This year’s Festival features nearly 30 concerts through July 26 featuring symphonic and chamber music, big band, a cappella, American roots, bluegrass, blues, Scottish rock, country, jazz, folk, piano, R&B/soul, opera, special events and more. The Villalobos Brothers family band is recognized as one of the foremost contemporary Mexican ensembles in the world. With their unique fusion of Mexican folk, jazz, and classical music, they have graced prestigious stages around the globe, including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and captivated audiences with their virtuosic musicianship. Hermanos Villalobos have frequently collaborated with legendary musicians, which has further enriched their musical palette. The Festival runs through July 26 with artists including the Festival Orchestra, Chamber Players and Chorus; Conductors Allan Pollack, Ryan Murray and Francesco Lecce-Chong; pianists Susan Waterfall, Keisuke Nakagoshi, Rachel Breen, James D’Leon, Sergey Belyavsky, Julian Pollack, Tammy Hall, Alexander Katsman, Carolyn Steinbuck, Allegra Chapman and Sarah Cahill; vocalists Kelsey Waldon, Jackie Venson, Kim Nalley and Maiya Sykes, Violinist Julian Rhee, Calder String Quartet, Villalobos Brothers, Sidenote, Foxglove, Julian Pollack Trio, Foghorn Stringband, Charlie Musselwhite, Skerryvore plus special events, open rehearsals and more As part of 2025’s varied and dynamic programming, the Festival will celebrate Igor Stravinsky with a film and 17 works spread across seven different concerts. The Russian-born composer revolutionized music with his ballets and experiments with rhythm and dissonance. Two concerts will be devoted entirely to music by Stravinsky. Chamber masterpieces will be played in the Festival tent; Stravinsky at Home, in Preston Hall, will feature intimate and varied music by the composer, dedicated to his wives, children, and close friends. Stravinsky’s varied compositions will be heard throughout the Festival. Prior to the Festival opening, Susan Waterfall’s film, Why We Love Igor, will provide an overview of the life and work of the 20th century’s greatest composer screening July 6 at 2:30 pm at Preston Hall.
