Mendota Heritage & Hawk Festival
Date: Saturday, September 24, 10 am – 4 pm.
Location: Mendota Community Center, 2465 Mendota Rd., Mendota, VA
On Saturday, September 24, Mendota celebrates the rich mountain heritage of this small, rural community and the hawk migration that takes place this time of year. The hawk migration county began in Mendota at the fire tower in 1958 and continues each September.
Both live music and DJ-provided entertainment will be provided. Food items include street tacos, nachos and cheese, hotdogs and soft drinks. Kids games throughout the day. Guests may try their luck at our 50/50 raffle—proceeds benefit the Mendota Community Association.
Local vendors include the Feisty Bee selling honey and bee-related items and the popular JC Leathercraft with an assortment of leather items for purchase. Other local vendors are expected. Artisan demonstrations include basket weaving (by Dorothy Dye) and wool spinning.
