Start: Friday, July 29, 2022 3:00PM
End: Sunday, July 31, 2022 10:00PM
On the August long weekend, July 29-31, residents and visitors alike will gather on the rocky shores of historic Hope Bay on Pender Island for an outdoor arts and culture festival that celebrates the diversity of the land and the people who inhabit it. Produced by local arts organization Ptarmigan Arts, the weekend features headlining performances from Leela Gilday, Shari Ulrich, Leeroy Stagger, Adam Dobres and Pierre Schryer, and Sarah Smith, as well as free afternoon activities and live music for the whole family.
The weekend will begin on Friday afternoon with a drumming workshop facilitated by Jordan Hanson of Drum Victoria, followed by the first of three ticketed evening concerts. On Saturday and Sunday, afternoon activities will run from 1-4pm and include a Circus Hour with Planet Janet Hoops, art workshops for all ages, nature-based activities with the Pender Island Conservancy, and live music performances from Kathryn Calder, Luke Wallace, Richard Garvey, Brodie Dawson, The Kerplunks, Pico’s Puppet Palace, and more local artists to be announced.
Local businesses at Hope Bay will be open during the weekend. Festival goers can eat at a delicious lunch or dinner while overlooking Plumper Sound at HUB, grab coffee and homemade truffles at Pender Chocolates, browse local art at the Ptarmigan Gallery or visit the working studios of local artists Kathleen Theriault and Susan Purney Mark. Other businesses at Hope Bay include the Pender Veterinary Clinic, Studio B Hair Art, Dockside Realty, and Power Heart and Hustle.
Mosaic Arts & Culture Festival is produced by Ptarmigan Arts, a Pender Island-based charitable arts organization that provides workshops, classes and events in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and filmmaking, as well as operating a community gallery representing many of Pender’s local artists. The festival, now in its third year, is a culmination of Ptarmigan’s mandate, and a celebration of the land and community we are a part of.
