Newtown Historic Market Day returns on Saturday, October 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (rain date October 6).
Held for nearly 50 years on the streets surrounding the historic Half-Moon Inn (Court Street and Centre Avenue), this free, family friendly event offers a glimpse into colonial America with 80 artisans/craftspeople selling their wares, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of Newtown’s early days.
Attendees will also enjoy live music, food, and a wide range of colonial activities such as historic reenactments, puppet shows, candle making, hayrides, and craft demonstrations. Musicians featured at this year’s event include Bill Dooley at the Half-Moon Inn and the Dockside Band at the Callahan Research Center.
Market Day celebrates the colonial tradition of local farmers and homesteaders bringing their crops, livestock, and homemade wares into town to sell to neighbors and townspeople. It has transformed throughout the years to feature high-quality artists, crafters, entertainment and food.
Market Day is an opportunity to step back in time and celebrate the rich heritage of Newtown while also supporting local businesses and enjoying the company of friends, neighbors and fellow history enthusiasts.
