Public Disco’s annual Pride Block Party returns to Mount Pleasant for our biggest event yet. In partnership with Vancouver Pride Society, we’re transforming a full city block into an open-air celebration of queer dance music—with two stages, two lots, an alley takeover, and an expanded footprint flowing out onto 3rd Avenue. Curated by Nancy Dru, this year’s lineup spans a wide range of sounds, headlined by Jason Kendig (formerly of Honey Soundsystem) and a return appearance from DJ Hermano (Brazil/Montreal), whose recent Public Disco set left us wanting more. One stage lives beneath a steel-framed structure that channels the energy of a late-summer warehouse session, while the other anchors our newly expanded lounge environment. Set in industrial Mount Pleasant, this event sold out last year and is quickly becoming a Pride season tradition for dance music lovers in Vancouver. Origins of Dance Music Public Disco events pay homage to the rich and diverse history of dance music, rooted in the pioneering efforts of Black, Queer, and Trans communities in Chicago and New York. Locally, it flourished within alternative art spaces and iconic gay clubs such as Graceland, Gandydancer, Faces, and the Odyssey. Throughout its evolution, dance music culture has been a beacon of acceptance and diversity, with trailblazers like Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan leading the way. This event celebrates the resilience of Black, Queer, and Trans communities, honouring their commitments to dance music culture, and their ongoing work to bring people together through music. ?
