Celebrated Concert Series Returns to Spotlight Bronzeville’s Vibrant Musical Legacy

CHICAGO, IL — The critically acclaimed Reimagining Cabaret series continues its trailblazing journey through music and storytelling with its fifth installment, Reimagining Cabaret: The Bronzeville Edition, premiering Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 7:30 PM at The Haven Entertainment Center, located at 932 E 43rd Street in the heart of Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

Presented by Black Voices in Cabaret, this dynamic production is created, produced, and directed by Lynn Colbert-Jones. The show reimagines the classic art of cabaret through the prism of African American musical excellence. With Theodis Rodgers, Jr. as Music Director and the ever-charismatic Margaret Murphy-Webb as emcee, the evening promises a soul-stirring celebration of artistry and cultural pride.

Headlining the performance is Cynda Williams, acclaimed singer and actress best known for her breakout role in Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues. A stellar ensemble of Chicago vocalists join:
- Sean Harris, a master of smooth vocals and versatility
- Madeline Morgan, a returning favorite and impressive song stylist
- Sonia Oyola, known for her rhythmic expression and heartfelt interpretations
- Ken Fobbs, a seasoned performer with a powerful, classic cabaret style

Each performance in the Reimagining Cabaret series features a fresh lineup, new repertoire, and a unique theme, inviting audiences on a genre-spanning musical journey through jazz, rhythm and blues, classical, musical theatre, and more. The Chicago Sun-Times hails the experience as “incredible singing, and scatting, snapping and dramatic flair” that leaves audiences “rapt from start to finish.”

Reimagining Cabaret: The Bronzeville Edition is a featured performance of Chicago Cabaret Week 2025 and pays tribute to the rich cultural and musical legacy of the Bronzeville neighborhood.
