Last year’s event was a huge success. In addition to Pride in the Park, Ridgefield CT Pride helped coordinate a multitude of celebratory Pride events which took place throughout the entire month of June. There was something for everyone, from our tiniest tots to our seniors. Events ranged from Rainbow Week at the Ridgefield Library and LGBTQ+ themed feature film screenings at the Ridgefield Playhouse and the Prospector to Pride Portrait making for kids at the Aldrich and a Pride T-shirt dying event hosted by the Ridgefield Running Company. There was even a virtual Pride event for teens hosted by Ridgefield High School’s GSA and Wooster’s Spectrum. Even our religious community showed their support for our LGBTQ+ community and their belief in the importance of caring and inclusion. Besides a presence at Pride in the Park, Congregation Shir Shalom hosted its annual Pride Shabbat service while St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church has graciously kept the Pride banner up year-round alongside their own banner which is all about inclusivity. Finally, who can forget that Ridgefield’s Pride in the Park 2021 attracted people from all over the state, from Watertown, to Wallingford and Waterford to West Hartford as well as some from MA and NY. Finally, more local businesses than ever showed their Pride in a variety of ways ranging from sponsorship, participation at the event or via the Pride Perks Card, creating a signature Pride offerings like Pride ice cream at Deborah Ann’s and Pride cookies at Ross Bread to running dazzling activities at Pride in the Park such as Adam Broderick Salon and Spa’s Hair Flair Station.
Ridgefield CT Pride is a non-profit organization that was created to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, to educate, promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of this community; and to provide support for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies. In addition to organizing Ridgefield’s annual Pride in the Park celebration, Ridgefield CT Pride also runs two monthly support groups that serve the CT and NY communities. The LGBTQ+ Youth group meets the first Monday of the month and offers support to LGBTQ+ Youth. The second group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month and is designed to support family and friends of people in the LGBTQ community. During Covid, meetings are held virtually and the family group is a joint meeting with Waterbury PFLAG. For more information on the support groups contact supportgroup@ridgefieldctpride.com.
