RICHMOND FIRST's topic for Valentine's Day is most appropriate: Love and healing for Richmond's at-risk children. Our February speaker, Robert Bolling, is the Chief Executive Officer of ChildSavers, a nonprofit agency that provides child mental health and child development services for Virginia's vulnerable youth. During his tenure, ChildSavers has expanded its reach from a local agency to one that has footprints in two-thirds of Virginia and serves 5,000 children. ChildSavers will observe its 100th anniversary this year. Youth served by ChildSavers come from the region's most troubled backgrounds. Without early treatment for trauma and mental health issues, many will turn to gun violence and crime later. ChildSavers offers virtual and in-person child therapy in-clinic, school-based, and Immediate Response therapy. Prior to joining ChildSavers, Mr. Bolling served as Executive Director of the William Byrd Community House. Earlier, he spent 14 years with the Virginia Department of Health and was appointed Director of the Office of Minority Health in 1992. After his work with the state, he served in management positions, mostly in finance and development, with groups including Youth Matters through the Greater Richmond Chamber and nonprofits such as Boaz and Ruth and The Healing Place. A native of Richmond, he earned a degree in political science from Amherst College.
NOTE: Our outstanding video celebrating Richmond First's 100th anniversary, five years ago, will be shown during lunch-highlighting a legacy in which all of us can take great pride.
On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the Richmond First Club Board of Directors awarded the 2023 Richmond First Good Government Award to James E Ukrop on behalf of its members and countless number of citizens of the greater Richmond Area. Jim Ukrop is a true embodiment of the values of integrity, excellence, and service that we cherish and aspire to. He is a role model for inspired community service and a champion for good government and leadership. Please join us in congratulating Jim Ukrop on receiving this well-deserved award.
