Steve Golis is a long-time supporter of scouting and The Outdoor School. Steve recognizes the value of scouting, having gone through the program himself and earned the rank of Life as a youth. Steve will be receiving the Council Legacy Award. Beyond his professional achievements as Co-Founder of Radius Commercial Real Estate, Steve is a committed community supporter actively involved in organizations such as Rancheros Visitadores and Santa Barbara Trail Riders. His efforts have helped get thousands of local impoverished youths to have an outdoor experience they could not otherwise afford. Steve is also a proud board member for both the Los Padres Council and Santa Barbara Humane as well as being involved in a Community Housing Board for Low Income and Homeless for over 15 years, reflecting his deep ties to the community.
Bob Burtness will receive the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award for his efforts in promoting positive values in youth through scouting. Bob grew up locally and was active in scouting, eventually working as a staff member at local scout camps including Camp Rancho Alegre. He was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in 1954 as a youth due to his hard work and dedication to our local community. After serving his country for five years in the Air Force, Bob spent 30 years serving his community as an English teacher. He was part of the group the established The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre in 1985, who has served over 100,000 local 6th graders to date.
Serving youth in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, Los Padres Council aims to help chartered BSA organizations effectively use the scouting program and expand the use of the program to other community groups. Los Padres Council operates outdoor experiences through Camp Rancho Alegre in Santa Barbara County. It also delivers education to youth in Southern California through the operation of The Outdoor School.
