Ian Davenport: Poured Staircase The Tide From 29 June Free Turner Award nominated Ian Davenport submerges the walkways and staircase of The Tide in a reimagining of his instantly recognisable, multi-coloured poured lines paintings. Poured Staircase glides down the Tide steps and pools onto Peninsula Square. His first ever outdoor site-specific work joins London’s first elevated park. Simone Brewster: The Shape of Things NOW Gallery 29 June – 24 September Free One of the leading voices in contemporary design presents a bold collection exploring the power of objects to communicate societal expectations and affect our memory and emotions. Marwan Kaabour: River in Verse The Tide From 29 June Free Independent graphic designer and visual artist Marwan Kaabour uses the many languages spoken by the Peninsula’s communities to create a ‘love letter’ to the river Thames. Words and illustrations are woven through this dynamic work, which changes with the light, wrapping the Tide walkways in a kaleidoscope of colour. ‘Music to move to’ in partnership with Clod Ensemble Design District courtyard and Clod Ensemble Studio 5 & 6 August Free Multi-award-winning performance company and Design District tenant Clod Ensemble lead a weekend to get everyone moving with dance and movement workshops and unmissable performances. Big Music weekend Design District Courtyard 11 – 13 August Free Sultry Jazz, High Life, funk and carnival vibes at Greenwich Peninsula’s Design District. Friday 11: Women in Jazz / Clonmell Jazz social Saturday 12: Rhythm section with headliner, Bradley Zero and guests Sunday 13: Just Vibez The Joy of Food Design District Courtyard and Bureau 19 & 20 August Free Celebrate all things culinary with cooking workshops, wine, feasts, celebrated chefs and artisanal markets for everyone to enjoy. The events will be taking place in Design District’s courtyard and Bureau restaurant, Greenwich Peninsula. Pop-up Film Weekender in partnership with Pop Up Screens and Century Films Design District Courtyard 26 & 27 August Pop-up Film Weekender in partnership with Pop Up Screens will keep screen geeks big and small smiling with classics from The Gruffalo to The Goonies and Everything Everywhere All At Once, plus cinema treats at Canteen. Design District is partnering with Century Films to host the screening of a series of shorts including the debut of Morningtown, a short feature with Christopher Eccleston, filmed and edited in Design District. Greenwich + Docklands International Festival: RoZéo by Gratte Ciel 2 & 3 September Free Greenwich + Docklands International Festival (GDIF) is London’s leading festival of free outdoor theatre and performing arts. As part of GDIF, Greenwich Peninsula welcomes French aerialists company Gratte Ciel with the UK premier of RoZéo, a gravity-defying performance reflecting the wonder of the Peninsula’s natural riverside ecology. Open House Design District 16 & 17 September Free Greenwich Peninsula’s Design District opens its doors for the award-winning Open House festival, offering people the chance to explore the District’s much celebrated architecture with architect-led tours. London Design Festival Greenwich Peninsula – various locations 16 – 24 September The whole of Greenwich Peninsula has been entered as a design district as part of this year’s London Design Festival. Activities will be around every corner of Greenwich Peninsula’s very own Design District, where visitor will be able to truly tap into their creativity. Murugiah: Rangoli In collaboration with London Design Festival Peninsula Square From 16 September Free Award-winning multi and interdimensional artist Murugiah continues his trajectory as London’s next big name with a site-specific installation launched as part of London Design Festival (16 September). Celebrating Diwali the festival of light, the stunning light sculpture takes as its inspiration the Hindu tradition of Rangoli. Further cultural collaborations will include specialist food menus and community engagement workshops (craft / drawing / film) at Canteen and Bureau, dance performances and a ‘drawing with senses’ Big Draw event 1-31 October. Turning Tides Festival The Tide Free 23 & 24 September from 2-10pm Turning Tides, the free music festival, returns to Greenwich Peninsula for a weekend of eclectic live performances. This festival marks the last celebration at Greenwich Peninsula’s Summer Sessions, as Turning Tides brings together the creative community for the closing of the series (and sadly the summer).
