A Scotsman reviewer praised his disregard for stand-up conventions, and his humour has been lauded by various sources. James won the 2003 Jongleurs/Spike Milligan award for Midlands' funniest person and previously worked as a radio presenter, experiences which inspired his solo show.

He has headlined top UK comedy clubs, supported Johnny Vegas, Peter Kay, and Lee Evans on tour, and performed internationally, including for British troops in Afghanistan. Steve's observational and physical comedy has earned him TV roles in *Funny Cow*, *Love, Lies and Records*, and *Coronation Street*.
