Festival Details - "Tevye in New York!"...

Start: Saturday, March 8, 2025 7:30PM
End: Sunday, March 9, 2025 2:00PM

Ever wonder what happened to Tevye, wife Golde and his daughters after the curtain came down in Fiddler on the Roof? Finally those decades-old questions will be answered by TEVYE IN NEW YORK! Written and performed by Tom Dugan, this dynamic new play comes to the Berger Performing Arts Center on March 7 and 8, the story follows Tevye as he fights for his piece of the American dream in 1914—from his journey with his daughters across the Atlantic Ocean, through Ellis Island, past "the big green lady," and into the crowded streets of Manhattan's Lower East Side. Based on the beloved characters of Sholem Aleichem, you will fall in love with Tevye all over again in this funny and poignant one-man show. Tevye In New York! is a magical tale filled with laughter, heartbreak, and joy, as Tevye tries to balance tradition with what it means to be an American Jew. The Berger Performing Arts Center is located at 1200 West Speedway. The play runs for 90 minutes without intermission. ABOUT THE PEOPLE

Tom Dugan (Playwright/Actor/Producer)

Dubbed a "National Treasure" by critics, Tom Dugan is a highly acclaimed Los Angeles-based playwright and actor with over 35 years of experience. His work has earned numerous accolades, including nominations and awards from the New York Drama Desk, New York Outer Critics Circle, Los Angeles Ovation, Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle, and Los Angeles Stage Scene.

Dugan is best known for his meticulously researched historical one-person plays, which have been produced across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Israel, India, Australia, Italy, Scotland, the Caribbean, and London. His acclaimed play Wiesenthal—described as "heartbreaking and beautiful" by the New York Times—was produced Off-Broadway by Daryl Roth and featured on PBS. A feature film adaptation of Wiesenthal is slated for release in 2026.

Other notable solo works by Dugan include Tell Him It's Jackie [Kennedy] ("Masterful" - Curtain Up), The Ghosts of Mary Lincoln ("Spellbinding" - LA Times), Robert E. Lee - Shades of Gray ("Brilliant" - Stage Happenings), and Frederick Douglass in the Shadow of Slavery ("The Best" - Peninsula News).

In addition, Dugan's recent multi-character dark comedies Cemetery Pub ("Hilarious and original" - South Florida Theater Magazine) and Irish Goodbye ("Dazzling" - Curtain Up) premiered in Los Angeles and continue to be produced regionally. His upcoming dark comedy, Old and Intoxicated, will complete his New Jersey Trilogy (comprising Old and Intoxicated, Irish Goodbye, and Cemetery Pub) and is set for a Los Angeles production in 2025.

Last winter, Dugan premiered the new touring production of his award-winning play Tevye in New York! ("Magical" - Los Angeles Times) at Florida's Delray Beach Playhouse, where it enjoyed three weeks of sold-out performances. Tom is thrilled to be back at The Invisible Theatre and will also bring Tevye to the historic Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, MN, as well as a return engagement at Delray Beach Playhouse.
