October 19, 2024 - Grammy-nominated vocalist Ryland Angel, accompanied by St. Mark's Director of Music Ministries, Ned Tipton, will present a recital titled Folk Songs through the ages, featuring songs of the great Scottish lyricist and poet Robert Burns (a sampling of his enormous output of over 550 songs and poems), Irish, English, French, and American folk song in arrangements of Benjamin Britten, and others - from the Middle Ages to our day. Additionally, Ryland will sing a short section of folk songs from the Southern Appalachian Region: a special collection will be received, designated for Episcopal Relief and Development, to aid those affected by the devastation left from hurricane Helene.

Saturday, October 19, 2024, 5pm, in the soaring mid-century modern St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, CT.

British vocalist Ryland Angel has built an international reputation on both the opera and concert stage, in repertoire ranging from the Baroque to new operatic commissions at major opera houses, concert halls and festivals throughout Europe and the U.S. Mr. Angel has sung on more than 80 recordings, including the music of Buxtehude, Charpentier, Scarlatti, Stradella, Spears, O'Reagan, Handel, Monteverdi, Purcell and Bach, and on the film soundtracks of Jack Reacher, Zoolander 2, Freedom, Le Petit Prince and the PBS TV special Heavenly Voices, to name just a few. Recent creations include Tesla, Fantini Futuro, The Call, Including Words and The Chant Project.

American keyboardist and conductor Ned Tipton is Director of Music Ministries at St. Mark's, and came to New Canaan after seven years at St. John's Cathedral, Los Angeles; preceded by twenty-one years as Director of Music at the American Cathedral in Paris. Mr. Tipton has performed and conducted throughout the U.S. and Europe.
