Festival Details - "The Lost Girl: Based on the novel by D.H. Lawrence."...
Alvina Houghton, the headstrong daughter of a widowed Midlands draper, comes of age just as her father’s business is failing. In a desperate attempt to regain his fortune and secure his daughter’s proper place in society, James Houghton buys a theatre. Among the travelling performers he employs is Ciccio, a sensual Italian who immediately captures Alvina’s attention. A celebration of freedom, however fleeting, and a testament to the power of the imagination to transform even the most mundane life.
The script has been vetted by international D.H. Lawrence scholar, Catherine Brown. Jessica Levinson Young, Artistic Director of Untold Theatre, writes, “I absolutely loved this script for The Lost Girl. It has incredible pace and the dialogue simply leaps off the page!" Another of Germaine Shames' D.H. Lawrence adaptations, THE VIRGIN and the GYPSY, received a reading at the 2018 Festival of New American Theatre.
As a response to live theatre, in the traditional sense, being closed for the autumn of 2020, we are now producing a season of online theatre. As with our previous "virtual theatre", these shows will be available online through a link provided to ticket-buyers, and can be viewed from anywhere in the world, without restriction.
Feedback from viewers of previous shows ( performed in October 2020):
"I've just watched the production, and really enjoyed it, well done! I didn’t realise virtual theatre would be so fantastic. "- S
"What an ingeniously devised and wonderfully performed piece. It really made our Halloween. Looking forward to the next one. "- I.K
Viewers will be able to access the stream live, or watch for the subsequent two days (to allow for global time zone differences), via a hidden link manually provided via our company email firstname.lastname@example.org, to ticket purchasers, beginning the week before broadcast, and the link will be hosted on www.southdevonplayers.com. To watch the show, you will need to follow the link provided in the email by clicking on it.
