End: Sunday, November 12, 2023 3:00PM
The Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival continues in Monterey Square.
Congregation Mickve Israel invites the low-country community to the 33rd annual Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival – this year in Savannah’s historic Monterey Square – on Sunday, November 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This year we are excited to be back with our full menu of Jewish culinary offerings. Potato latkes (pancakes) and stuffed cabbage from Eastern Europe, noodle kugel (casserole) and blintzes from Western Europe and sizzling chicken schwarma and hummus from the Mediterranean are just some of the delicacies you’ll find at the festival. We’ll also be serving up deli sandwiches (corned, beef, pastrami and tongue), and assorted breads and sweets. Bring your appetite and then take a container home for dinner!
The shofar brigade will begin the festivities at 11:00 a.m. The featured performers will be Ricardo Ochoa and the Euro Gypsy Jazz Band. Members of the Savannah Philharmonic will be back, playing Jewish classics, as well as students from the Maxine Patterson School of Dance, who will share multicultural dances to join in. Jewish culture and humor will be interspersed to add an educational and fun component to the day.
This year Mickve Israel’s gift shop will feature holiday gift items, t-shirts and hats, and Judaica.
Tickets can be purchased at the festival or in advance by calling 912-233-1547 after October 23rd.
About Congregation Mickve Israel: Congregation Mickve Israel is the 3rd oldest Jewish congregation in the United Dates, dating back to 1733, just a few months after the founding of the City of Savannah. The present building and the Monterey Square sanctuary was consecrated on April 11, 1878. This magnificent synagogue, designed by the nationally known New York architect Henry G. Harrison, was built in a pure neo-Gothic style, which reflects the fashionable architecture of the Victorian era. After 290 years, Congregation Mickve Israel continues to be proud to be part of the Savannah community.
