Out of Norse esoteric tradition comes the brooding music of Norwegian group Wardruna, founded by Einar Kvitrafn Selvik.
With the use of the oldest of Nordic instruments and lyrics written in Norwegian, Old Norse and Proto-Norse, Wardruna creates music that shares characteristics with folk, world and ambient, but goes beyond those genres.
In 2009 Wardruna enchanted their listeners with debut album Gap Var Ginnunga, the first in the Runaljod trilogy.
The debut was followed by Yggdrasil, with guest appearances by Icelandic composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Iceland’s leading rímur singer Steindór Andersen, and Ragnarök. Stipped-down album Skald followed in 2018 to widespread acclaim.
Support comes from Jo Quail, an internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist from London.
