After a brief business meeting, which will include elections for the UCAC Board of Directors and reports on the work of UCAC Committees, guest speaker
Caitlyn Hunter Socrates will present: "A Glimpse into Their Kitchens: Celebrating Southern Maryland History and Food," a talk about her research around the cookbook 300 Years of Black Cooking in St. Mary's County Maryland. Socrates is a doctoral candidate at Duquesne University where she researches African American literature, food, and popular culture. She is an Assistant Professor of English at the College of Southern Maryland and is currently writing a culinary memoir around her ancestry. Her first book Power in the Tongue (Tolsun Books) debuted in 2022.
Non-members are welcome to come and hear our guest speaker, learn more about UCAC, and share in celebrating the organization's accomplishments. Light refreshments will be served.
