Plein Air Petal Portraits with Annelein Beukenkamp

Join local artist Annelein Beukenkamp for a relaxed and inspiring watercolor workshop set among the blooms at Swift House Inn gardens. Working from a variety of flowers on site, participants will explore how to create expressive, colorful paintings in a plein air setting. Annelein will guide painters in using their full palette while encouraging a loose, spontaneous approach. The workshop will cover key elements of design including shape, value, color, line, and texture, along with techniques like negative painting to develop foliage and create contrast. The session will begin with a demonstration and discussion of pigments and materials, followed by time to paint with individual guidance. The workshop will conclude with a casual group share to see what everyone created. Best suited for painters of all levels, including those newer to watercolor who are excited to experiment and loosen up their approach. Participants should bring their own supplies and be prepared to work outdoors. The workshop is part of Sparrow Plein Air Festival, taking place throughout downtown Middlebury June 12–14.
